COSMOS

COSMOS in Geography

COSMOS in Geography. The cosmos, a vast and awe-inspiring entity, has captivated human curiosity since time immemorial. It encompasses everything that exists beyond our planet Earth, from stars and galaxies to nebulae and black holes. As we explore the mysteries of the universe, we delve into the realm of geography, for the cosmos is a grand tapestry of spatial relationships and celestial landscapes. Join us on a cosmic journey as we embark on an exploration of the geography of the universe.

The Cosmic Neighborhood

The first step in understanding the geography of the cosmos is to familiarize ourselves with our cosmic neighborhood. Our solar system, a tiny speck in the vastness of the universe, consists of the sun, eight planets, numerous moons, and various other celestial objects. Each planet possesses unique geographical features, such as Mars’ rust-colored deserts or Jupiter’s massive swirling storms. Moons like Saturn’s Titan or Jupiter’s Europa also display fascinating landscapes and potential for extraterrestrial exploration.

Stars and Galaxies:

Beyond our solar system lie billions of stars that form intricate constellations and galactic structures. Just as geography studies the distribution and arrangement of landforms on Earth, understanding the distribution and arrangement of stars and galaxies is a fundamental aspect of cosmic geography. Different types of galaxies, including spiral, elliptical, and irregular, exhibit varying spatial patterns, providing valuable insights into the universe’s evolution and dynamics.

Celestial Phenomena:

Cosmic geography is not only about stationary celestial bodies but also encompasses the study of dynamic and transient phenomena. Supernovae, the explosive deaths of massive stars, create stunning nebulae that showcase intricate patterns and structures. These celestial “geological formations” serve as indicators of stellar evolution and the dispersal of heavy elements throughout the cosmos.

The Expanding Universe:

Geography is concerned with the interconnectedness of landscapes, and in the cosmos, the concept of space itself plays a critical role. The notion of an expanding universe, established by Edwin Hubble’s observations in the early 20th century, reveals that galaxies are moving away from one another. Just as the geographic study of plate tectonics uncovers Earth’s dynamic nature, the expanding universe suggests that the geography of the cosmos is continually evolving.

Uncharted Territories:

Despite the vast amount of knowledge we have gained, there is still much of the cosmos that remains unexplored. Dark matter and dark energy, for instance, account for a significant portion of the universe’s composition, yet their nature and distribution remain elusive. The study of these enigmatic aspects of the cosmos is akin to exploring uncharted territories, much like early geographers venturing into unknown lands.

Conclusion:

The geography of the cosmos takes us on a mesmerizing journey through the spatial dimensions of the universe. From our humble solar system to the dazzling arrays of galaxies, cosmic geography reveals the interconnectedness and dynamic nature of celestial bodies. By studying the distribution, arrangement, and evolution of the cosmos, we gain profound insights into the vastness of space and our place within it. As we continue to explore and uncover the mysteries of the cosmos, the geography of the universe will continue to astound and inspire us, reminding us of the infinitude of our cosmic home.

UPSC CIVIL SERVICES EXAMINATION CUT OFF

UPSC CIVIL SERVICES EXAMINATION CUT OFF | The UPSC exam refers to the Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in India. It is a highly competitive examination held annually to select candidates for various civil service positions in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other central services.

The exam consists of three stages: the Preliminary Examination, the Main Examination, and the Personality Test (Interview). It assesses a candidate’s aptitude, knowledge, and skills in a wide range of subjects and is known for its rigorous selection process.

UPSC CIVIL SERVICES EXAMINATION CUT OFF

The UPSC cut-off marks are of significant importance in the Civil Services Examination. Here are a few reasons why:

  1. Selection of Candidates: The cut-off marks determine which candidates qualify for the next stage of the examination. Only those who score above the cut-off are eligible to appear for the Main Examination and the subsequent stages.
  2. Competition Level: The cut-off marks reflect the level of competition in the exam. The UPSC exam is highly competitive, and the cut-off serves as a benchmark that indicates the minimum standard required to qualify.
  3. Merit-based Selection: The cut-off ensures a fair and merit-based selection process. It helps in identifying the most deserving candidates based on their performance rather than arbitrary selection.
  4. Category-wise Allocation: The UPSC exam has separate cut-off marks for different categories (General, OBC, SC, ST, etc.). This ensures fair representation and reservation as per the government norms.
  5. Eligibility for Services: The cut-off marks determine whether a candidate is eligible for the desired service or not. Different services have their own specific cut-off requirements, and candidates must meet the prescribed criteria to be considered for those services.

Overall, the cut-off marks play a crucial role in determining the success of candidates in the UPSC examination and the subsequent allocation of services. Cut off is available on official website of UPSC .

Tropical Cyclones and Their Distribution

tropical cyclone

Tropical Cyclones and Their Distribution. Tropical Cyclones are Low Pressure system in which turbulent wind blows. tropical cyclones typhoons , hurricanes and tornadoes are different names of tropical cyclones according to different regions. Typhoons in China sea; Tropical Cyclones or super cyclones in Indian Ocean; Hurricanes in Caribbean sea; willy-willies in north western Australia.

What is type tropical cyclone?

Tropical cyclone are defined by their region of origin. As the name indicated they are formed in tropical region around the globe. There are two types of cylcones first one is tropical cyclone and later one is temperate cyclone. Unlike temperate cyclone tropical cyclone does not contain warm front and cold front nor it contains warm airmass or cold air mass. It is developed from warm sea water’s latent heat and coriolis force in tropical areas between 5N to 25 N and 5S to 25S in both hemisphere.

How a tropical cyclone is formed?

Initial Formation

The formation and initial development of a cyclonic storm depends upon the transfer of water vapour and latent heat from the warm ocean water to the air, by evaporation from the sea surface.

It encourages formation of vertical cumulus clouds due to convection with condensation of rising air above the ocean surface.

Mature Stage

When a tropical storm escalate, the air rises in vigorous thunderstorms and tends to spread out horizontally at the tropopause. Once air spreads out, a high pressure at high levels is produced, which stimulates the downward motion of air due to convection.

With the inducement of subsidence, air warms up by compression and a warm  Low pressure centre  is generated which is called Eye of Cyclone.

Decay

A tropical cyclone begins to weaken after its landfall or when it passes over cold waters.
